I met this family in a rather unusual way - let's just say that my clients usually know my name more than 5 minutes before I start shooting their family ;-). It was a real pleasure meeting them and shooting this impromptu session - and here is a sneak peek for them, to prove that I am not just some girl who was walking around playing with a camera she had just bought that day!
Over the years, quite a few of my clients have become my friends; it's one of the best fringe benefits of doing what I do. Sometimes I meet a client and just KNOW that we're going to be friends. So - meet my new friends :-)
Few things get my energy and creativity going more than a family that is super-enthusiastic about their portrait session. It becomes a wonderful contagious circle: they're excited, which gets me excited, which gets my energy (and manic kookiness!) going, which in turn leads to more fun for everyone. I just loved this session!
This spunky little boy (who I've photographed since he was a little baby!) was VEHEMENTLY opposed to having his picture taken. I think we managed to do OK though :-)
I met this beautiful young mom six years ago, in the bustling social hub of my town (that is, at Target). We met because of my work; she struck up a conversation because something I was carrying that day had one of my images, and she had heard of my work and somehow put the two together. That chance meeting brought people, experiences and blessings into my life that I can't put into words. As I try to capture special moments for her family, I am reminded how being in the right place at the right time, just one moment, can change your life in important ways. Fast-forward six years, and she doesn't look a day older - and now it's that much harder to believe that she is the mother of these three handsome young men!
Yup, that's two posts in one day - I'm on a roll! This session was like chicken soup for a weary photographer's soul :-). Look up - see that super-cute baby girl in the green tutu? This is her. I have been honored to watch her grow, so now when I see her and her family, I want to know what she's up to, does she still love horses, how's school - she's my little friend! This session was truly a pleasure, because she did most of the work - I just got to walk around and capture her doing what she does best: play and explore.
No, it's not quite the holiday season yet - even the department stores don't have their decorations up yet! (Not that I'd know - I haven't stepped foot in a store in forever!). 'Tis the Busy Portrait Season. The time of year when child/family portrait photographers such as myself fall off the face of the earth. When friends wonder if we've moved out of town. When we have no idea what's happening in the world, or in our own backyards. When everything but the essential tasks just SLIP. Thus, my blogging drought. I love sharing little bits about my sessions - the unique qualities that make each family unique and each session special. But, lacking the time for that, I thought I'd share some of the images I've been creating, with just one thought to accompany them: I have thoroughly enjoyed working with each and every one of these families, capturing their unique personalities and relationships, and getting to know them!
I am obviously quite behind on blogging, and it is getting COLD today, so I thought I'd start catching up by posting my last beach session of the year. Hoping this sends a little warm ocean air your way :-)
It's not often that I do 2 blog posts in one day, but I wanted my friend, the lovely mom in these images, to see this on her birthday. Happy Birthday to a great friend, terrific mom and inspiring professional! I hope this gives you a little bit of a birthday treat!
There is a great line in a song I love: "You've got to be careful when you've got good luck or the angels will just keep on multiplying." I'm so happy for this lovely family's good luck - enjoy your beautiful angels!
